Letterlab was awarded the top prize, Gold, in the category Brand Implementation of the European Design Awards. It was also awarded the overall Jury Prize: “This is the piece of work that, according to the jury, promotes design best, within the wider public.”

Part of the ongoing development of the identity we are designing for Designplatform Rotterdam we created another essay called ‘What makes a city attractive for creative entrepreneurs?’, written by Dr Erik Braun.


European Design Festival

We just hosted about a 100 participants of the ‘Design Walks’, one of the events during the European Design Festival which is held in Rotterdam this year. We don't know how everybody fit in, but we had a great time hosting all these groups of people that either arrived on bikes or by water taxi!

‘Vive le papier électronique’ can be seen in one of the houses on ‘Happy Street’, Pavilion of the Netherlands World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The thrift store inside, designed by Piet Hein Eek (with 2D support by Studio Boot), featuring numerous artifacts of Dutch Design by renown designers such as: Martin Visser, Richard Niessen, Tejo Remy, Thonik, Dick Bruna, Anthon Beeke, Piet Zwart, Gijs Bakker, Studio Boot, Benno Premsela and Piet Hein Eek himself.

BNO Spellbound invited us to give a lecture in Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam. We gladly took this opportunity to question and comment on graphic designers, the usage of multiple dimensions and media.

Comment expliquer à des 6-13 ans l’ensemble des conaissances que mobilise l’alphabet? Au musée du graphisme de Breda, une salle est reservée à la sensibilisation des plus jeunes. Après De Designpolitie, les Néerlandais de Strange Attractors investissent la galerie des enfants et soumettent l’écriture à un examen méthodique. Le Letterlab ouvre le ventre de la lettre, dissèque la variété de ses contours, étudie les relations entre signe et sonorité, anatomise la composition typographique, analyse envore la notion de sens à laquelle elle est intimement liée. Au fil d’ateliers, les jeunes visiteurs expérimentent ces connaissances: traçage au light graff, construction au pixel, composition d’une affiche... Un coin vdéo rensigne sur l’histoire de la typographie. Pas moins commissaires de l’exposition, scénograhes que graphistes de la communication, Strange Attractors réussissent un pari à large échelle et signent d’une même volée quatre alphabets. (CB)
